Discover GentleYAG Pro at BioSkin Laser
Unwanted hair can mean constant shaving, waxing appointments and irritation. At BioSkin Laser in Manhattan, we help clients explore a more lasting approach through professional laser hair reduction. GentleYAG Pro is a long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser designed to deliver energy to pigment within the hair follicle, helping reduce future hair growth over a series of sessions.
Rather than recommending the same approach for everyone, a consultation considers your skin tone, hair color and texture, treatment area, previous hair-removal experiences and relevant medical history. The goal is a realistic plan that prioritizes appropriate settings, comfort and skin safety.
Why the 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength matters
Different lasers interact with skin pigment in different ways. The 1064 nm wavelength penetrates relatively deeply and is often preferred for medium-to-deep and darker skin tones, including Fitzpatrick skin types IV–VI. It can be used across a wider range of skin tones when a trained provider selects suitable settings, but suitability must be evaluated individually.
GentleYAG Pro belongs to Candela’s Gentle Pro family. Its Dynamic Cooling Device delivers a brief cooling spray around each laser pulse to help protect the skin surface and improve comfort. Cooling does not eliminate the possibility of discomfort or side effects.
Areas clients commonly ask about
Laser hair reduction can be considered for the underarms, bikini line, legs, arms, back, chest and certain facial areas. The most appropriate approach depends on the location and characteristics of the hair. Fine, white, gray, red or very light hair may respond less predictably because laser treatment relies on pigment in the hair.
What happens during a treatment?
Before treatment, the provider evaluates the area, reviews recent sun exposure and skin products, and discusses precautions. Protective eyewear is used during the procedure. The handpiece delivers controlled laser pulses, often described as a brief snapping or warming sensation. Appointment length depends on the area treated.
Afterward, temporary redness, warmth or mild swelling around follicles can occur. Follow your provider’s specific aftercare instructions, including sun protection and avoiding activities that aggravate the treated skin.
How many GentleYAG sessions will I need?
Hair grows in cycles, and laser energy is most effective on follicles in a responsive growth phase. For that reason, multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart are commonly recommended. BioSkin Laser may discuss an initial series of approximately six visits, but the actual number and timing depend on the treatment area, hair density, hormones and response. Occasional maintenance may be needed.
Laser treatment is best described as long-term or permanent hair reduction, not a promise that every hair will be permanently eliminated.
Preparation and safety
- Avoid tanning and disclose recent sun exposure or self-tanning products.
- Tell your provider about medications, photosensitivity, recent skin treatments and any history of pigment changes.
- Follow shaving instructions; avoid waxing or plucking before sessions when directed, since the follicle needs a hair target.
- Do not treat irritated, infected or sunburned skin without a clinician’s approval.
- Discuss potential burns, blistering, temporary irritation and lighter or darker pigmentation before starting.
